Nissan Repair: Tightening cam and crank bolts on 2001 Xterra, cam sprockets, chain wrench

Question
I am doing the timing belt on my 2001 Xterra (6cyl).  I am also replacing the seals on the cam and crank.  What is the best way to retighten the camshaft sprocket bolts (about 65 ft lbs) and crankshaft bolt (about 150 ft lbs).  I don't want to stress the new timing belt to do it, so I need some way of holding the cam sprockets still to tighten.  I know for he crank I can jam a screwdriver into the flexplate/driveplate teeth at the inspection hole, but where is the inspection hole on the Xterra?

Answer
HI Wayne -

For the timing belt sprocket, I usually wedge a screwdriver on the right side of the sprocket. There is an indention on the right side of the head where you it can be lodged against.

On the crankshaft, I usually get a chain wrench around the entire pulley and rest it against the frame, that way the stress will be on the pulley, not the bolt.

Hope this helps -
