Nissan Repair: nissan brake light fuse, turn signal switch, light fuse

Question
i have a 1992 nissan maxima and my frake light fuse keeps blowing as soon as i put it in.  i replaced the brake light switch and the problem didn't change.  any ideas?

Answer
Hi Matt -

First of all check for the obvious - Remove the sockets on the rear of the car and inspect the brake circuit for bare wires, water contamination, etc.

If nothing is found, then remove the brake lamp bulbs and change the fuse. Depress the brake again to see if it blows. If it does, then the short could be in the wiring from the socket, or even the turn signal switch on your steering wheel. To check that, remove the harness connection along the steering column and replace the fuse again, if it does not blow, then replace the turn signal switch.

Hope this helps -
