Nissan Repair: Stalling, mass airflow sensor, nissan sentra

Question
QUESTION: I have a 1989 nissan sentra, it starts and runs but as soon as  i give it gas it just dies out, i could kinda drive it if i lightly step on the gas, but after a while it just dies out, it starts again and sometimes it dosent, but as soon i apply the gas it just dies, you have any idea ? oh and when i accelerate sometimes, it throws a lot of black smoke out the tail pipe

ANSWER: Hi Juan -

First of all, I will need to know when the last time you had the car tuned up. The actions are typical of:

Spark plugs
Ignition wires
Distributor cap
distributor rotor

If these have been replaced, then it could be the ignition module or fuel pump, fuel filter or even the ignition coil.

Please check the above and get back to me -

QUESTION: well i havent done that at all ever since i got the car, but i read the trouble codes on the car and it said 12 and 32, i replaced the mass airflow sensor,  it turns on now and it works but im afraid it will start doing the same thing, after that i ran the car for a while and the 12 code went away but the check engine light turns on after i drive it for a while, 32 is egr function, i cleaned out the egr valve  and port and the other egr piece thats goes right next to it, but i still get the 32 code, what could it be? you have any idea? does it mean i have 2 replace the egr? i recently replaces the fuel filter only, but nothing else, if u have any idea i would love 2 here thankx

Answer
Hi Juan -

The sensors that provide the error codes are very sensitive and even the smallest of inconsistencies will illuminate the light. With that said, differences in exhaust output can be a factor. Being that replacement of spark plugs, cap and rotor all play a part in that, I would suggest replacing the said items.

Let me know -
