Nissan Repair: Clutch, nissan d21, dot3 fluid

Question
I have a 1988 Nissan d21 4x4 p/u, the other day I pushed the clutch in and it wouldn't go into gear so I adjusted the clutch pedal with the push rod which worked for a day or two now it wont go into gear again. Is it possible that the slave cylinder or master cylinder is bad? There is no fluid leaking around the master cylinder. Thanks

Answer
Shawn,

The most probable cause is the slave cylinder but the clutch master could be bad too.  Pull the rubber boot back and check for fluid.  Also, if you want a nice firm clutch use Ford High Performance Brake Fluid.  It has twice the boiling point as regular DOT3 fluid.  If you can stand it go to the local Ford dealership parts department and ask for it by name.  Most of the parts guys at Ford Dealers do not know that they have the regular blue label bottle and the black label High Performance kind.  Both are DOT3 but the Black label bottle is excellent.
