Nissan Repair: 2003 nissan xterra v6 2wd se, nissan xterra, diagnostic capability

Question
My wife was driving the car and she drove it for an hour and a half and she
said the last half an hour the car would seem like it would go in neutral and
them back in to gear.  I took it for a short drive did not see any thing wrong.
We were driving this past weekend down in kentucky and after 2 hours of
driving up and down through mountains, we got off the highway.  i stop at a
stop light and then took back off and i felt 2nd slip a little.  latter on it got
worse but through all gears.  it got so worse it was always in netural.  When i
turn the car off and back on the problem went away for a mile.  then the
problem back again.  Then i turned the car off and back on the problem went
away and after a mile came back.  it has new transmission fluid and filter.  if
you can help me that would be awesome

Answer
Joshua,

I would take the Xterra to the dealer or Cottman transmission to get it diagnoses.  The computer that controls the transmission should let you know if the computer or the valve body servo pack is going out.  A diagnosis should be around $100 bucks for them to hook up the computer and let you know what is going on.  The Nissan is great for having a diagnostic capability and all they have to do is hook it up to their computer.
