Question
my 98 quest has a hard start problem when cold,i read something about a cold start valve,is there such thing for my quest and if so where is it located?im sure its like a gas prime valve but what is the proper name?or do i have such device?can you plz help

Answer
Hi Robert -

Yes, there is such a thing as a cold start valve, and it should be located somewhere along the intake throat. Look for both a fuel line and wires connected to a device. However, I am not too sure the Quests have it.

Also, you may want to check the air charge sensor, usually located in the intake manifold, it measures the temperature of incoming fresh air and then relays this information to the computer. When the outside air is cold, the air charge sensor signals the ECC (engine control computer) also known as ECM (engine control module) or ECU (electronic control unit) to enrich the fuel/air mixture. When the outside air is warm, it signals the ECC to lean out the fuel and air mixture. or the air cleaner temp sensor - measures air and fuel mixture in the intake manifold. The engine control computer receives the signal from the sensor and adjusts the injector pulse width and fuel mixture. It senses the temperature of incoming fresh air and decreases the vacuum when the air is warm. When the air is cold, the sensor directs more vacuum to the air cleaner vacuum motor.

Hope this helps -
