Nissan Repair: Cruise Control cancels(blinks) when turning on headlights only! -1995 Nissan Maxima, nissan maxima, periodic checks

Question
Hi, I have a 1995 Nissan Maxima V6, VQ30DE @ ~128,000 miles

For the longest time, nobody has been able to figure out the problem of my cruise control canceling when switching on the headlights -

Cruise Control : Works fine with headlights OFF (completely, not halfway on), Speed is maintained at set level - also, RES ACC and CANCEL work great! INDICATOR: SOLID GREEN on Display Panel

The problem:
Cruise Control : CRUISE INDICATOR BLINKS when the headlight knob is turned, even halfway or full - Cruise system loses maintained speed... have to manually press and control accelerator pedal - the halfway headlight turn immediately cancels the cruise and it flashes -

This problem is a pain, when I am on the highway and would like to have the headlights on i.e. safety, amount of visible light, also cruise control saves me $$ on gas -

All the other electrical components to the maxima are functioning properly -

I had a mechanic check the fuses - and they were OK.

Then someone mentioned this as a possibility - that the headlight/wiper combination switch could be causing the problem - and find a cheap, used replacement combination switch for this model - and it might do the trick....

Well, Von - the all expert nissan guru - I lay this question to you for the end all - say all solution -

The Car has been maintained well, and I'd like to keep it for a few more years! I have been pumping Shell V3 Power 93 Octane, using Lucas Fuel Injector monthly, Mobil 1 synth - and maintain to the best ability the other needed and periodic checks...

Please give me any other input to this problem - I had tried to google search this - but to no luck! Thank you for all your advice! Regards, Chandu

Answer
Chandu,

Yes, there is probably an intermittent short in the headlight, combination switch causing the problem.  There is no relay or fuse that would do this and the only place where they tie in is the headlight switch.  Try rockauto.com or courtesynissan.com for a cheap replacement switch.
