my temp gauge reads 0 fuel gauge not oper. no odometer, and tach only works when reved up reads0 at idle

I would think the instrument cluster is defective or the connector that feeds electrical to it is corroded.  First, I would remove the cluster and clean the connector and harness plug with a number 2 pencil eraser and blow off the dust.  What you are doing is lightly scrubbing the connections to clean off corrosion and then blow off the dust and reinstall the cluster.  If this does not work source a cluster at a wrecking yard and replace yours.
