Nissan Repair: no ignition spark 1989 n13 pulsar, n13 pulsar, grounding system

Question
i have no power to small red wire going to igniter
when i apply positive power to that wire i can get a spark when i act as the points ( break circuit and remake circuit)
when ignition is on i have ecm light on  on dash
i have connected a new ecm and still cant get a spark
does that red wire reieve a feed from igniter back to ecm  or does ecm feed the power to the igniter  or am i looking in wrong place
thankyou

Answer
Darcy,

The ECM is the grounding system for the breaker ignition.  That is, it is easier to pull a ground rather than apply power.  I would look at the ignition circuit to see if a relay or one of the master fuses is defective.  I say this since you say if you apply power you get a spark. That tells me the ECM is good and you need to look at the power feed.
