Nissan Repair: Clicking sound when you turn the wheel., steering linkage, nissan maxima

Question
I have a 1995 Nissan Maxima that makes very loud clicking sounds when I turn the wheel. They are not coming from the steering column rather, somewhere in the engine compartment or wheel area. It is loud enough to hear if you are standing outside when I turn. Any ideas?

Answer
Hi jennifer -

Aloha.
Looks like you have loose steering linkage.

Good way to check:
Lift the vehicle up to where the front wheels are off the ground. Grasp the tire on each side and try to shake it back and forth. If there is a lot of play, then it could be from the tie rod ends.

It should be a rather simple repair.

Hope this helps
