Nissan Repair: 98 sentra transmission problems, clutch cable, clutch master

Question
Hi there, over the last couple of days my car has had trouble with the clutch not allowing me to shift into 1,2,3 very easily. I find myself pushing my pedal all the way to the floor and even when stopped my car feels like it wants to stall out when put into 1 or 2. Over the last couple of days it has gotten harder and harder to shift into those gears. I have 117,000 miles on my car but replaced my clutch around 70,000. Do i need to replace it again or just the clutch cable? I checked to make sure my fluid levels were good and they all are. Thank you for any help.

Answer
Adam,

Sounds like the clutch master or slave cylinder is going out and needs to be replaced.  I would get under the vehicle and check for fluid at the slave cylinder first.  The is a  rubber cover where the actuator extends from and this is usually where they leak.  Now, you could just bleed the clutch and see what that does since the car has the miles and age.  But, from my experience the slave cylinder is usually gone and needs to be replaced.  Also, bleed the clutch with Ford High Performance Brake Fluid for a much better pedal feel.  You can pick up a pint at the Ford Dealer for around $5 bucks.  But, you have to ask for it by name since most of the parts guys do not even know that they have the good stuff.  The nice part is it is DOT3 and will not screw up your system like synthetic brake fluid.
