Nissan Repair: 2002 quest speedometer, reputable shop, speedometer

Question
Hi, I'm having a problem that seems to be frequent in Nissan Quests. Once on the highway and driving a bit my speedomoter bounces and than eventually stays at 0. My service engine light is also on, could this be related? And if that isn't enough while on the highway and the speedometer was on 0 I lost all power, it was like the car was shutting down. I had no power when I hit the gas peddle. When I slowed down to about 40, all power came back, is this related? Not enjoying my quest right now.

Answer
Hi Cindy -

I am sorry you are not enjoying your Quest right now. In my opinion, the light and your problems are related. The transmission has a sensor in it that monitors your speed and your gas pedal position. It reports to the computer and then tells the car whether to accelerate or how to perform. Once the sensor gets a wrong signal, it will turn that light on.

So, my opinion is you probably have a defective sensor, and you will need to take the car in to a reputable shop and have it diagnosed. Normally they plug in a machine and it tells you what sensor is defective.

Hope this helps -
