Nissan Repair: 05 Nissan Quest Issues, nissan quest, water seal

Question
I have an 05 Nissan Quest.  It has the power rear door (that part works fine), the sensor for the back door that tells you the door is open is broken so it says the door is open even when it's not. I don't really mind that part but it seems to be causing my alarm to go off constantly.  I guess it thinks someone is opening the rear door since the sensor is broken?  How hard (& expensive) would it be to fix the sensor and/or how hard would it be to just disconnect the alarm so I can at least lock the van even if the alarm won't work.

Answer
Hi Kristin

Your sensor(probably the correct word is a switch) will be located somewhere along the track of the door, probably near the rubber water seal that runs along the entire area where the door closes on. Normally it is protected by a rubber cap so moisture does not compromise the switch.

If you want to disable that switch, the 2 wires that go to the switch can be crossed. That way the computer will think the door is always closed.

It should not be too much of a cost to replace that switch, labor should be minimal, the bulk of the cost being in the switch itself. I am guessing you can do the entire job below $100, depending on labor charges where you are from.

Hope this helps -
