Question
Please help I took my Nissan in for a trans oil change when they said my power steering pump was leaking and needed replaced and the oil filter adapter needs replaced. However I've never had any issues with my power steering except that I have noticed a leak near my right front tire.
Could it be possible that I need all of this work done it's going it's cost 750.00

Answer
Lisa,

I would have them show me the leak to make sure it is not just the hose.  If the pump is leaking at a seal then it would need to be replaced.  The oil filter adapter could be cracked as these are known for the problem.  Again, show me the problem where it is cracked or leaking is what I would ask them.  Turst, but verify...  The cost is within reason since the power steering pump is a royal pain to get access to in order to replace it and it is quite expensive as is the oil filter adapter.  Labor is about $250 with the rest in parts and shop fees.  Yes, you can source the parts on the internet for about half.  But, the shop has to pay their bills as well as the mechanic so that is why the price it around $750 at the shop.  If you have a friend that is a mechanic or handy there is an opportunity to save if that is a possibility...
