Nissan Repair: Engine vibrates too much, nissan sentra 2001, mass airflow sensor

Question
Hi Von,

My car is Nissan Sentra 2001 model. I bought it 2 months before.

Currently I am a problem with my car. The symptoms are:

1.) The engine vibrates too much (I should say jumps).
2.) After reaching 25 or 30, it takes more time to react and the rpm reaches 6 or 7. and suddenly it will pull. I guess the gear it not changing.

The autozone people checked it using some meter and it said the error code P0314.

I thought it could be transmission fluid problem. So i went to the nearest repair shop and flushed it out completely and refilled.

My question is:

Whether the both points I mentioned above are relating to same problem or there two different problems?

How much do you thing it going to tax me?

Thanks in advance.

Krish.

Answer
Krish,

The code is a single cylinder misfire and it is not specific.  Usually this means that the mass airflow sensor is messing up.  This could cause the jerking you are experiencing.  I think both problems are one in the same with the engine doing this cutting out and on again causing the jerking motion.  I would either take it in and have the mass airflow sensor diagnosed or get a Haynes Manual or a factory service manual and fooolw the procedure for checking the mass airflow sensor.  You will need a volt/ohm meter that costs around $20 bucks and the Haynes Manual is about the same price too.  Email me back if you need more.
