Nissan Repair: 1998 Skyline R32 Computer problem?, skyline r32, rev counter

Question
Hi. I filled my tank up from dead empty. 10 minutes of driving later it switched off at a red light. Now it will start, run for 15-20 mins, then cut out (no stuttering, just cut out). It needs to be left for 20 mins before it will start again. I have been running it with feul system cleaner in the tank, no change. Also, when turning it over and pumping accelerator, the rev counter goes up and down with the accelerator though engine doesnt start. Also the ignition coil gets too hot to touch (have tried with 2 coils, same result). Sound like computer or just dirty feul system?

Answer
Barnaby,

The coils should not be running that hot so I would check the ignitor box to make sure the coils are not getting switched to the point of burnout.  The fuel system should be checked since the car was ran dry.  My bet is a fuel pump is cooked and that is causing the car to die.  So, check the fuel pressure first and check it when the car dies.
