Nissan Repair: oil leak, nissan xterra, radiator fan

Question
My 00 Nissan Xterra has a very minor oil leak(one little spot over 3-4 days). It has about 85K miles and is great condition. However, it only leaks while it is parked in my driveway, which is on a slight slant, but it does not leak while parked at my office. The oil levels are correct, I've never smelled burning oil and no warning lights have come on. It runs great...a little rough when cold, but only a little and it goes away once its warm. Any suggestions on where to look/start?

Answer
Dawn,

Nissan's usually leak at the drain plug since most shops do not replace the copper washer with an oil change.  Check there first.  If there is dripping there go to Nissan and purchase a bag of washers for your oil changes.  If this is not the case check the front and rear seals.  That is, crawl under the vehicle or put it on a lift and check at the front of the oil pan and the rear of the oil pan.  If the leak is really small I would not bother since the expense of front and or rear seal replacement is quite expensive.  The rear main seal requires the transmission be removed from the vehicle and the front seat replacement would mean that all accessories, along with the radiator, fan, fan shroud, alternator, airconditioner, power steering, timing cover and waterpump would have to come off to get to the seal.  So, unless is is bleeding I would not bother until something really big requires it to be disassembled.
