Nissan Repair: Starter Problems, haynes manual, nissan frontier

Question
When I turn the key it makes a clicking sound, which makes me think the starter is bad, how do I replace my starter, and where is it located?  I have a 2002 Nissan Frontier 4.3L Automatic.

Answer
Heather,

I would be checking for a low battery first to see if it is fully charged.  My bet is the battery is gone becasue of the year of the vehicle.  If the battery is good and you have a defective starter it is located on the side of the block.  It is held by a couple of bolts and is just a matter of removing the old one and installing the new one.  Disconnect the battery first since the main wire to the starter is 12 volt positive cable.  I cannot emphasise enough how important it is to disconnect the battery first.  Also, a Haynes Manual for your truck would be good too.  Let me know if it is the battery or the starter.
