Nissan Repair: Car dies, air control valve, volt ohm meter

Question
The cars dies when it comes to an abrupt stop. I have to press the gas pedal to make sure that it doesn't go out.

Answer
Kevin,

If you car has a dashpot, the little diaphram that slows down the throttle when it closes, check to make sure it dampens the closing.  If not replace it.  If yours does not have one then check the idle air control valve and remove and clean it.  Otherwise, I would check the throttle position switch to make sure it reads correctly.  A Haynes manual and a volt/ohm meter are a good investment since it is realy easy to check and you don't have to pay someone $100 bucks for a checkout.
