Nissan Repair: Front Brakes on a 2000 Xterra, dot3 fluid, performance brake

Question
My brother-in-law blew out his front passenger caliper from running down the pads. I have to switch everything, but my question is would I bleed the brakes as standard operation or should the dealer do it because of the ABS. I'm afraid that the new caliper won't pulse properly and cause a severe pull that may lead to an accident. Is this job possible for the shadetree or ASE Cert. only?

Answer
David,

The brakes can be bled normally so Just bleed the entire system starting at the caliper you replace.  The system uses four channel ABS so there is a single line to each caliper/drum from the ABS unit.  I like Ford High Performance Brake Fluid since it is DOT3 and does not screw up the ABS.  But, it has twice the boiling point of regular DOT3 fluid.  You will feel the difference.
