Nissan Repair: interchangeability of one- and two-piece drive shaft, Nissan 1997 XE 4WD pickup, piece drive shaft, hardbodys

Question
I have a broken center support on my '97 Nissan XE 4WD pickup truck, extended cab/short bed.  I can find drive shafts easier than the center support alone; my question is, can I substitute a one-piece drive shaft for the 2-piece it had, and what years are interchangeable with the 1997 (it looks like the hardbodys are the same from 1986-1997 but one piece for two piece, etc.)?  Thanks--

Answer
Gary,

These are not intechangeable so I would stick with the tbwo piece design.  This design is to eliminate vibration since the 4X4 rides higher and the angle between the tailshaft and the differential is at a higher angle.  You could go with a one piece design but you would have vibration.  I would find a driveshaft shop and have yours rebuilt to avoid problems.  It is worth the $100 bucks to get yours repaired and avoid vibration.
