Nissan Repair: Ignition Key wont remove easily, printed circuit board, safety interlock

Question
I have a 91 Hardbody SE V6 2wd. For quite some time now when you turn the motor off the key will not release. The problem is the small button that you have to push when removing the key. Sometimes you have to wait a minute or two and wait till you hear a click, like a spring releasing to let you know when it can be removed.

On a different note, I am about to change the Instrument Cluster Voltage Regulator. I got the part from Nissan, and it has the box with the three wires coming off. I have not removed the Instrument Cluster yet, but I was wondering about how this connects. I know the box should just screw in but in the photos I have seen, I cannot determine if the wires connect to their places on the board using pins or screws. If they are screws, then it is not a problem, but if they are indeed pins, how do you suggest attaching the wires back to the board?

Answer
Jason,

Yes, the safety interlock is gummed up.  You could use tuner cleaner and follow that by a lock lubricant.  To do this you should take the column cover off and get plenty of rags as not to get the cleaner or the lubricant on the interior.  Use the little tubes that come with the cans to direct the spray where you want it.

The cluster voltage regulator is pretty much a plug and play since the connections are on a printed circuit board and you cannot wire it wrong.  But, take your time taking the cluster a part and be sure your hands are clean and you use clean rags as you do not want to fingerprint the inside of the lense of the cluster.
