Nissan Repair: 1994 Nissan Sentra - Problems with Driver Side Door, nissan sentra, latch assembly

Hi Folks,

This might well be the "Question of the Day" :-)

I have a 1994 Nissan Sentra and I had noticed that the "latch assembly" that is only visible when the door is open, would get loose and I would be sure to tighten. Then one day the door would not open so I am not sure if I failed to notice this getting loose again. The door also seems to be dropping a little. I cannot get to much with the door closed. All the "screws" that hold the panel on are hidden with the door shut.

So:

1) Any idea how to fix this ?
2) Since the door is not shutting completely the door ajar  chime is sounding non-stop when the car is off (figures that thing won't burn out). Any idea how to disconnect this ?

Hope you can open the door with it sealed up.  Othewise, you will have to cut into the door panel to access the assembly to open the door.  You would have to replace the door panel. So, if there is a way around it that would be a better solution.
