Nissan Repair: Dash & Climate Control lights out, phillips screw driver, nissan sentra
QuestionQUESTION: The speedometer and climate control lights are out. I've checked the bulbs and I've pulled out and checked out all the fuses. They're all fine. Her father had the dimmer switch tested and he said it's fine. So, I'm stuck and open for suggestions. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks.

If all the dash lights are out and the dimmer is good as well as the fuse that powers the system it would lead me to think the headlight switch is gone out. Now, there has not been an aftermarket radio installed? If there was that could be the problem.

QUESTION: I realize now that I didn't fully explain the situation. The car is my girlfriends 98 Nissan Sentra. There is one other fact that might be connected. No aftermarket radio has been installed, it's still the factory. Although, the light in the radio has gone on and off for years...mostly been off. It actually hasn't come on in about a year now. Also, the shifter lights (Park, Reverse, Drive, etc) have been out for years. The dash and climate control just went out last week. Anyway, I will try the headlight switch. Is this easy to replace? I read somewhere else that you said all it takes is a phillips screw driver. I can pull one out of the junkyard. Thank you very very much for your help, Von. You're saving my girlfriend (and me) a lot of money that we don't have.

I would bet the headlight switch is what caused the lights to fail. Those others are probably burnt out. Yes, it only takes a phillis screwdriver to replace the headlight switch. Remove the steering column cover and you will see the screws that hold the headlight switch on. Disconnect the battery first as there is an airbag in the steering wheel so you want to be on the safe side. Just wait five minuted for the capacitors to bleed down before starting the dissassembly. WHen done simply reconnect the battery and you should be good.
