Nissan Repair: Cant take it out of park, nissan maxima, flat blade

The drive shaft is stuck in park..it seem as though the button you push on the side is locked or stuck, even when I hold down the brake i still cant move it out of park..its a 95 nissan maxima,with automatic transmission

The safety interlock for park is stuck.  There is an access cover that you can put a flat blade screwdriver in to release the shifter from park as a quick fix.  But, either the shift lock solenoid or the brake pedal switch is defective preventing the shifter from releasing.  If you look at your shift console up and to the left is a small cover that you remove to get the screwdriver into to release the shifter.
