Nissan Repair: Brakes, blue lable, haynes book

Question
I'd like to change my front brake pads on my 1993 sentra, how do I go about doing this?

Answer
Robyn,

First, you will need brake pads.  I love the factory ones since they work great.  Otherwise, get Performance Friction Carbon Metallic from Autozone. You can purchase factory pads from courtesynissan.com on-line much cheaper than from the dealership if that is your choice.  I would purchase a Hanyes Manual for the instructions and pictorials of the process.  The book costs $20 bucks and you can pick it up from any parts store.  You will need a jack and jack stand to hold the car up.  You can get the wheel off with the lug wrench that came with the car.  You will need metric sockets to get the two bolts off hold the caliper on and a C-Clamp to compress the piston back where the new pads will fit on the rotor.  Also, it would be a good idea to bleed the brakes with Ford High Performance Brake Fluid since it has twice the boiling point of most parts store brands.  You can purchase this from a Ford Dealership.  It comes in a Black label bottle.  Most dealerships do not even know that they have this and try to sell the Blue Lable bottle and it is not what you want.  The Haynes book also shows how to bleed the brakes.  You will need a person to help press the brake pedal while you open the bleeder screw.  If you need more email me back.
