Nissan Repair: Car Cutting out, hose clamp, loose pin

Question
I just purchased a 2003 Maxima. After driving it for 90 minutes or so the car started to cut out after 2000 rpms. It asks like it is starving for gas. My Dad tried xhanging the spark plugs but it still is doing it. The weird thing is I taje it and have the codes ran on it because the check engine light comes on and it showed codes P0650 and P1448. Once they reset the codes the car runs good for an hour or so then it starts again. Any other suggestions to help find the problem? Might have known it would do this after I signed the papers on it!

Answer
Jamie,

The P0650 code is for the check engine light circuit.  That tells me there is something going on with the computer on the car.  I would disconnect the battery and then unplug the harness to the computer and reconnect it to see if it was a loose pin on the connector.  The second code is a vent control valve which would lead me to think your gas cap was defective or you have a rotten fuel hose or a defective hose clamp for the fuel system.  2003 was a bad year due to hoses being defective.  If the car is under warranty you might check with a dealer to see if they would repair the problem for free.  If you bought the car from a dealer you have the recourse of raising hell due to a latent problem with the car.  If it was a Nissan dealer you can also call Nissan Corporate if the dealer will do nothing.  Email me if you need more help.
