Nissan Repair: 93 Sentra Temperature Control Switch, haynes manual, costly repair

Question
The temperature control switch began to become difficult to go back and forth between cold and hot. Now, it's finally broken. I removed the panel thinking I could reattach the wire to the switch. However, it looks like the problem is not "up front" in the wire. As I follow the wire towards the engine, it ends under a black box of some sort. The flap or door must have broken off?? I am almost thinking this is a very costly repair and to keep the windows rolled down????? Thanks for your help.

Answer
Todd,

The cable actuator is probably broken off at the blend door.  Yes, it is a pain to get to but it will be worth it.  You need a Haynes Manual to have the visuals to make the job easier.  Yes, you can do it yourself with simple hand tools.  The glovebox has to be removed to get access to the door.
