Nissan Repair: 1995 Nissan Maxima Engine Stalls, nissan maxima gle, air control valve

Question
I have a 1995 Nissan Maxima GLE with 219,000 Miles. For about a year, I have had a problem with the engine stalling when I stop at Stop signs and in the drive-in window lane of Fast Food places. I have had the fuel filter changed and started using only a quality gasoline. It still stalls but it seem to happen mostly if I have the Air Conditioner on and I come to a stop and pull forward slowly like in a Fast Food drive-in lane. I does not seem to stall if I stop at a red light then continue driving normally. It always restarts, but I have to push down on the gas pedal when restarting and revve the engine a couple of times for it not to stall again.  What do you think is the solution to this problem?

Answer
Lynne,

There are several things that can cause this.  First is idle air control valve.  Second is the throttle position switch and the third is the manifold absolute pressure sensor.  Since it sounds like it is flooding I would start with the throttle position switch.  You could do this yourself since there are only a couple of screws and it is on top of the engine.  Just purchase one and unscrew one and install the other in the same position.  Are there any engine codes?  Email me back if you need more information.
