Nissan Repair: 1997 Nissan XE pickup, emergency flashers, phillips screwdriver

Question
Both my turn signals and my emergency flashers have stopped blinking. All the proper lights come on, but none blink. There is no clicking sound whatsoever when the turn signal or the flashers are turned on. I've checked all the fuses too. I suspect the flasher itself is bad, but I, as well as two different auto repair shops, cannot, seem to locate the flasher unit itself, even after removing half of the dash on the driver's side! So, do YOU think that the problem is indeed the flasher, and if so, how can I find and identify it under the dash when it makes no clicking sound? I would greatly appreciate any of your help with this problem! Thank You!
Eric

Answer
Eric,

Change the headlight combo switch.  All the contacts are in the switch that screws to the column.  All you need is a phillips screwdriver to remove the column cover and then you can change out the switch.  Disconnect the battery first since the switch is hot all the time and you do not want to short anything out when you do the change.  rockauto.com is a good source if you can wait a couple of days for the part.  Or, check your local parts store.
