Nissan Repair: Code P1226, throttle position sensor, 2002 nissan altima

Question
I have a 2002 Nissan Altima and recently the check engine light came on and my car started to surge as im driving. The code that came up was P1226 Fuel Air Metering. What can this be?

Answer
Gus,

The throttle position sensor or throttle motor needs to be checked to see which one is acting up.  The cpecifics are throttle position learning closed which could be that the battery was disconnected for a long period of time or the ECM or throttle motor was disconnected and has to be relearned.  If none of these are the case you probably will need a new throttle motor installed and learned for your car.  There are no technical service bulletins on your car and the only other thing I can think of was when the Maxima went to drive by wire it had a problem with the first year where the floor mat would get under the pedal and people mashing the gas pedal broke the electric rheostat on the pedal assembly.
