Nissan Repair: 2000 maxima thumping noise front right wheel, wheel bearings, sway bar end links

Question
I've a 2000 Maxima. I made the mistake to bring it to a regular mechanic to be fixed. He changed the axles and wheel bearings. Before that the car was driving almost noiseless; now any time I drive over 50 MPH I hear this loud noise coming from the front right wheel. The mechanic told me that the problem comes from the struts. I don't believe him! What do you think? The noises appeared after he made the repairs.
Thanks'
Guy

Answer
first off, don't blame the little guys!!! he did what he thought was the problem but it didn't resolve the issue (trust me cars can have 100 fixes to 1 problem).  i would go for a "regular mechanic" over any dealer any day. sometimes these guys have too much pride to lose to say that they cant figure it out so they tell you that its something else...its the little guy syndrome i guess lol.  ok what exactly is this "loud noise" anyway...im not quite sure i understand what you are asking.  is your noise a "thump" like it states in your subject, or is it a whining noise, like a tire spinning on pavement noise?  this really could be a multiple of things.  if he changed the shafts and the wheel bearings then theres a few things left to rule out.  the struts could be the problem if they are original depending on your driving conditions and the mileage on them, they don't last forever! you may also have bad ball joints, sway bar end links, tie rod ends, bad bushings... or it simply could be a tire thats out of pressure range or a tire that is just "loud".  it can be anything.  if you could be a little more specific on your question , unless i already answered it, give me a follow up.  thanks!!! xxp_sebby@yahoo.com
