Nissan Repair: VDC and Slip Lights On, seatbelt light, light harness

Question
2003 Nissan 350z
My car will run fine then all of a sudden...the VDC and SLIP lights both come on and my engine will almost cut off (rev to less than 1000rpms). Brake light also comes on randomly. Just got the oil changed (synthetic). Also, my right passenger seat quit moving forward (thinking car could have previously flooded, purchased over two years ago). Thanks for your time, Bryan

Answer
Bryan,

The VDC and SLIP lights indicate that the computer is keeping the car from letting loose in the rear end.  If you press the button on the left side of the dash, just above the gas door button the lights won't come on.  If they are stuck on all the time bleed the brakes.  The seats in the Z are not very robust and they end up breaking or sticking.  I have a 2003 350Z adn have had the same things you describe.  Remember that the seats have airbags unless you have a base model.  So, if you are going to take a seat out to work on it you have to disconnect the battery first to keep the airbag light from setting.  That would cost to go to the dealer to get the light reset.  Usually, the seat gets bent or a cable comes loose.  If you disconnect the battery frist, then unblot the seat, unplug the wires, both the seatbelt light harness, airbag, and seat heater, if so equipped.  Now, lean seat forward, remove headrest and take it out of the car being sure not to scratch the door sill.  Filp the seat over and examine the hardware and you should see the problem.  Email me back with what you find.  Just remember, if yours has a side airbag not to have the battery connected until the seat is back in the car and plugged in.  Otherwise you get the cost of having the airbag light reset.
