Nissan Repair: 2004 350Z Gas/Exaust Odor, gas vapors, answer mark

Question
I wasn't aware of a fuel hose recall. Did that apply to the 2004 Z? Where is the fuel hose located? Also, what are the covers behind the seats? Are they accessed from inside the car or from beneith it?

-----Question-----
I occasionally get a faint gas odor in the cabin and can smell a faint gas odor when standing outside at the front right side of the car. Also, I get a continuous fume type smell inside when driving. After driving the car my clothes still smell like this fume odor. I took it to the dealer, who said they couldn't find any leaks. What could this be? There is definitely something not right. I've been driving the car for almost three years and all this started apx 3 months ago.

Mark,

Was the fuel hose recall performed on your car?  If it was they might not have the gas lines tight or the covers behind the seats could be leaking and gas fumes could get in the car that way.  I have a 03 Z and had the recall performed and other than a bent heat shield they did a fine job.  But, I would get it checked soon as it is dangerous if gas vapors are getting in the car.

Answer
Mark,

I would go to a different dealer and ask them to look up your VIN nubmer as you heard that there was a hose recall and your car has all the classic symptoms.  Smells like gas so take it in.  The recall requires them to drop the gas tank and replace all the hoses.  Quite involved and it will take them a day to do the work correctly.  They even take the rear end out of the car to get to the gas tank and hoses...
