Nissan Repair: 300ZX TT BACKFIRES, 300zx tt, haynes manual

I HAVE A 1991 300ZXTT. THE CAR IS WONDERFUL, BUT RECENTLY AFTER 3500 RPMS THE CAR WILL MISS AND BACKFIRE ALMOST LIKE ITS FUEL STARVED.I JUST CHANGED FUEL FILTER AND PROBLEM IS STILL THERE. RUNS FINE THROUGH OUT LOWER RPMS IN ALL GEARS

If it is backfiring at higher RPMs like you say I would think the distributor is messing up like the optics have oil on them.  Basically, the coil is unable to fire the plugs at a higher RPM.  I would take the distributor apart and look at the optics under the cover.  If there is no oil I would be looking at the coil and check it as described in the Haynes manual.  The coil could be defective and also check the wires and the plugs.
