Nissan Repair: 2001 Maxima, screw driver, brake switch

Question
I have a 2001 Maxima as stated above with 112,000 miles on it. I am having trouble getting the automatic transmission out of park. I can sometimes keep pushing the brake pedal and I will hear a clicking sound and it will come out, but most of the time I have use the sift lock by placing a screw driver in it to get it out of park. What it my problem?
Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

Glen

Answer
Hi Glen,

One of two things. First, have someone stand behind the car and see if the brake lights come on when you hit the pedal. If not, then replace the brake switch on the pedal. If not, it get's a bit more tricky. You will need to replace the interlock solenoid. I think it's the brake switch though.
