Nissan Repair: 1989 Nissan Pathfinder Trans/engine/elect, nissan pathfinder, accelerator pedal

Question
I have an 89 pathfinder that occasionally while accelerating either in the city or during hwy driving the transmission seems to disengage. After I let up off the accelerator pedal it will catch again when the rpm’s get to 1000-1500.

Also the vehicle has no problem getting acceleration from 0-30, but above 40-50 it seems to struggle for power.

I have had the transmission rebuilt (symptons occurred after rebuild less than 1000 miles ago)
Put in new fuel filter, (muffler checked the catalytic converter (can see through it no problem also professionally installed) have replaced AIV box and related items there.

Greatly appreciate any advice you can offer.

Answer
Michael,

The filter is problaby dirty or where it plugs in it is sucking air.  That is what it sounds like to me.  That is, the pump is loosing pressure and that causes the slip.  They did install a new pump when they rebuilt it?  If not it could be the pump.  But, from what you describe it should be one of the above.
