Nissan Repair: 2002 sentra gxe, mass airflow sensor, mass sensor

Question
i have a 2002 sentra gxe. i have trouble starting it and if it does fire it will just die and sometimes if will run.  it also dies as i am driving down the road. i called the dealer and they said that it has a recall on the sensors and this sounds like the problem.  i paid to have the veh. towed and they did the work and this did not solve the problem.  they stated that they did the mini diag and that said that the air mass sensor was bad.  i paid to have it towed back to my mechanic and we replaced the sensor and the car will still not run correctly and i called the dealer and they stated that i would need to tow it back.  we ran another diag. on it and it is not showing anything.  i have already spent 800.00 and cant afford much more. can you help

Answer
Lisa,

The mass airflow sensor is the usual problem.  Now, if the car is running bad and cutting out there should be a code in the computer?  If not then you have other issues.  I would ask them to give me the OBD (On Board Diagnostic) codes that they had on the previous work.  Then ask them what the new code is in the computer.  Now, if they are not replacing the correct parts they have a problem and should correct your car without you having to pay more money.  I would discuss with the Service Manager and if you cannot get the problem resolved take it to the zone manager.  If the dealer will not give you the name call Nissan at the number in your owners manual and explain the situation.  They should fix your car and dealers hate to get ratted on to Nissan Corporate.  So, you should get the problem resolved.  It is their fault and not yours.
