Nissan Repair: Crankshaft Sensor on 96 Nissan PU XE, crankshaft sensor, gas mileage

Question
The check engine light has been on for some time, and after getting it checked, I found taht the crankshaft positioning sensor shows a malfunction.
Where do I look for a physical inspection of the sensor?  And how difficult would it be to do a replacement myself if necessary?  This would cause gas mileage problems and other problems correct?

Answer
Scott,

This one is pretty easy.  It is on the timing cover if yours is so equipped.  If not you are looking at the distributor.  Get a Haynes or Chilton and it has the photographs of the location.  I do not know if you have a V6 or a four cylinder.
