Nissan Repair: Suspension/Brakes/Electrical Issues, nissan pathfinder, rear brakes

Question
Mr. Sudderth:
Several small questions. I have a 1988 Nissan Pathfinder (V6, 4 Wheel Drive). Almost every time I hit the brakes the whole truck shakes hard and I hear a lot of banging and hammering from both the front and rear brakes. I brought it to a shop had all the brakes done and still have the same issues. They told me it is because all of the bushings under the truck are shot and the rear suspension is buckling or shifting up under the truck. Have you heard of such a thing and if that is true would it have that effect that I'm having? Next quick question; The fuel gauge, temp gauge, and RPM guage on my dash only work half the time and they keep blowing the fuse. When the fuse blows the battery/alternator light comes on and stays on but my battery and charging system still work. It has been inspected by an automotive electrical specialist and they cound not find a short, Any suggestions?

Answer
Tom,

If the bushings are worn you will get the shift and noise and I would replace the bushings.

The instrument panel is in need of having the contacts cleaned.  I would take them out and clean the connector to start with.  If that does not do the trick take the cluster a part and clean and tighten all connections and try again.  If this still does not work get one from the wrecking yard. Check it out and email me back if you have further questions.
