Nissan Repair: ABS light 98 frontier, obdii scanner, obdii code reader

Question
How can I turn off the ABS fault light on my truck. I have tried using an OBDII code reader and also tried disconnecting the battery.  The light came on when  I had battery troubles and had to jump start and or boost the battery.  Any ideas?.

Answer
Peter,

The OBDII scanner will not do it unless it has the feature that does ABS and airbags.  Most do not do that due to liabilities.  Now, the battery disconnect should have done the job of turning the light off.  If it does not there is a hard set code and something is wrong with the system.  you say it happened after battery trouble so it could be that the fuse to the ABS is blown and the computer is picking it up.  The computer would still work but the power that feeds the ABS unit could be out.  If that is not it you are probably looking at the computer that drives the ABS system.  Now, the way to know for sure is to have the code read at a speciality shop or the dealer.  Once you have the code you can correct the problem yourself.  Also, make sure you look at all the wheels to be sure that the sensors and wires are in good order as this is a common problem driving over something and messing up one.  Lastly, make sure you bleed the brakes every two years.  I like Ford High Performance Brake Fluid as it has a higher boiling point than the factory fluid.
