Nissan Repair: alarm system in my 99 Infinity, alternater, body control module

Question
Hi,

I replaced the alternator in my 99 G20 Infinity, while removing the old one we bumped positive wire off the alternater on the alternator bracket and caused a small short, after replacing the alternater and reconnecting the battery cable the alarm goes off there is no power inside the car with the exception of the head lights.  The car will not start and the alarm will not reset.  The key fob for the keyless entry/alarm is an after market one.  Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Jerry

Answer
Jerry,

If the alarm is an aftermarket unit remove it.  Under the dash is the place where they cut the main power to the column and if the alarm module is blown taking the unit out and soldering the wire back together will solve your problem.  If the alarm is a factory unit you will need a new body control module and that means going to the dealer unless you can source one from a wrecking yard.  If you need help with the wiring email me back.
