Nissan Repair: low oilpressure?, oil pressure gauge, gauge type

every time i start my 95 nissan xe 4 4. it sounds like my moter is going to come apart. like no oil flow for about 3-5 seconds? could the oil pump be going out? lots of noise!!!!!! how does one check oil presure. my truck has 153000 on it. thanks

Get an oil pressure gauge and screw it in to the gallery close to the oil filter.  You will see a plug that can be removed to facilitate such or take the pressure sensor out that the truck currently has installed and replace it with a gauge type unit and read the pressure.  If you are using really thick oil like 20W50 it will cause what you describe.  Nissan likes light oil like 5W30.  Check the owners manual and go from there.
