Nissan Repair: 2003 Maxima Valve Rattle, chevron station, scantool

Question
I have a 2003 SE Maxima.  I am very faithful about the care and maintenance of my car and am one that even keeps records of all maintenance.  I run 93 gas (which the book calls for) and only use name brand - Texaco, BP, etc.  I have taken it to the Nissan place but unfortunately the valves would not rattle on the test drive so I was told, they could not do anything.  They have been doing this for quite a while but seem to be more frequent and louder.  Any advice?

Answer
Angie,

If you are talking about spark knock try a Chevron station or Shell in your area with super as you have been doing.  If you are talking about the valves making a clicking noise you might want to be sure the oil you use is 5W30 and that would take care of that noise.  Remember, that on this car there is no timing adjustment so if it is really spark knock the dealership can put it on their Consult II scantool and retard the timing a degree at a time until the spark knock is gone.  You have to have the tool that the dealer has to retard the timing and even then you have to find a dealership that has the knowledge to understand that the Consult II scan tool has this feature.
