Nissan Repair: Fuel Gauges, nissan 350z, 2003 nissan 350z

Question
I have a 2003 Nissan 350Z. Last night I took it out for a gas fill-up and apparently I must have let the needle get too low. Well, I made it to the gas station and filled up. Usually, when I turn on the car after filling up, the fuel gauge jumps to F. This time, it stayed exactly where it was. The gas light is on  and the needle won't move. Also, the DTE indicator is telling me that I have no gas. I've tried resetting the car by disconnecting the battery but that obviously didn't work. What is wrong? What can I do?

Answer
Richard,

I have one too.  The fuel tank is made of two sections.  Well, one has the pump and sending unit in it.  The other side is where the gas goes first.  There was a service bulletin on this where they replaced the vent valve.  But, yours is probably out of warranty.  So, gas it up and drive it around in a parking lot moving the wheel left and right to get the gas to slosh around.  If this does the trick your gauge and computer will work properly.  If not, you need to get another pump unit and sending unit.  This installs behind the driver's seat.  Take the Bose sub woofer or cover off and behind it under the mat you will find a cover and under that cover is the pump.  It replaces as an assembly.
