Nissan Repair: Nissan 1600 1993, negative battery cable, neutral safety switch

Question
I have a Nissan 1600 NX 1993 and it will not start. I believe it is the starter but I don't know where it is or how to proceed. Help me?

Answer
Keisha,

First, is the car a manual or automatic?   Check the clutch switch on the pedal to see if it is defective and if it is an automatic check the neutral safety switch before replacing the starter.  If the battery is good and the switches are good then it is most probably the starter.  The starter is on the right side of the engine.  SO, jack up the car and support it with stands and chock the wheels and get under it and you will see the starter on the back side of the engine between teh engine and firewall.  Two bolts, a battery cable and a starter wire and then you replace it with the new one.  Now, remove the negative battery cable before you do any of the above to keep from touching the positive battery cable to ground when you are under the car.  The cable you take off at the bottom is hot all the time if the battery cable up top is not removed first.
