Nissan Repair: Alternator Replacement, negative battery cable, nissan sentra

Question
I have a 1997 Nissan Sentra and need to remove the Alternator to install a block heater (In Alaska) how do I remove it?

Answer
Kenny,

Take the alternator off by first removing the negative battery cable.  Remember that the alternator has a positive wire on it and that could acr to the bolck and damage the unit.  Loosen both bolts that hold the alternator on and then loosen the adjustment bolt.  That is the long one that goes down.  Now, remove the two bolts that hold the alternator on and leave the blet in place so you do not have to feed it back around.  Install the block heater and reinstall the alternator.  If you need more information email me back.  Be sure to tighten the adjustment bolt back to where it was before you loosened it and then tighten the two bolts that hold the alternator on. I like to use a marker to mark the position of the alternator on the bracket before I loosen it so I can get it back to the same place as before.  It is an easy way to tighten the alternator to the proper tension without over tightening it.
