Nissan Repair: Instrument Cluster Problems 2000 Nissan Frontier, temp guage, nissan frontier

Question
I read your response to a similar question dated 8/05/05.  The instrument cluster on my 2000 Nissan Frontier Crewcab will ocationally stop funtioning during normal operation (the speedometer will stay at the speed I was going when the failure occures, the tachometer goes to zero along with the temp guage).  If I turn off the vehicle for about five minutes the cluster resets and works fine for several more days.  It seems to be getting more frequent.  Do you think it is the resistor and if so how hard would it be to replace.

Answer
Bryan,

Take the instrument cluster out and it is on the back.  But, in your case I would check to see that the connection that plugs in the instrument cluster is tight and clean.  Get some tuner cleaner from Radio Shack and spray a little on the connector and connection.  Be sure not to use too much as just  spritz will do to clean things off.  You do not want this stuff to get inside the cluster.  Then plug it back in and see if the problem is solved.  The connections will get loose from time to time.  If it is clean and tight that might be all you need to do.  Give it a try and email me back.
