Nissan Repair: 1998 Nissan Code & Problem, air inlet hose, 240 sx

My girlfriend's 1998 Maxima lurched a little and the engine light came on. It has since lurched once or twice in the last 500 miles and the engine light has stayed on since the 1st lurch. We went to Autozone and the code came out P0100  MAF or VAF Circuit malfunction.  Any suggestions?  Thank you, Dave Grix and Stella Wheatley

The air meter needs to be replaced if the air inlet hose is not cracked between the intake and air meter.  The 98 is known for both problems.  So, check the hose for cracks that would let unmetered air in and if it is ok replace the air meter and reset the computer.  Be sure that the battery is disconnected when you replace the air meter as not damage the electronics.
