My dashboard lights do not come on at all, and when I turn on the headlights, the radio lights go off.  I read in a previous answer of yours that the dimmer switch may be bad, but I can not find it.  Where is it located?

By the way, the lights worked fine until I went to replace the master window switch (with a junkyard switch) and heard a 'pop' (like a short) from behind the dashboard or radio.

The master switch you replaced is probably shorted where it illuminates.  The dimmer is on the dash and it is just a rotating switch that adjusts the instrument lights.  I would first sheck the fuses.  Replace the blown fuse and then disconnect the master switch to verify that this was the problem.
